Complaint Comments:
I called State Farm for a Supplement on Tuesday, March 8, 2005. The supplement was for custom graphics on a conversion van (plus mark-up), and a price change due to actual invoice price vs a verbal quote for running boards secured by State Farm. State Farm did not contact me until Monday, March 14, 2005 at 4 PM. Although the running boards were not available from the source of their quote, they refused to accept the price of the same parts that I was able to locate from a different supplier. In addition, State Farm said they refused to pay any amount they feel is unreasonable for the stripes, and that I have the option of charging the owner of the damaged vehicle (the claimant) for the difference in price. When I asked the State Farm appraiser to put his position in writing, he refused. He also refused to come to the shop in person to verify the facts as I presented them, and to make the supplement. I still do not have a copy of the supplement at the time of this complaint. The State Farm appraiser maintained that when he called the supplier for running boards, they said they were in stock. When I called to verify that statement, the supplier said that they did NOT have them in stock, but that they could be manufactured in seven to ten days, with shipping to take an additional seven to ten days. The State Farm appraiser refused to make a three-way phone call in order to verify the accuracy of my statement, and further said that his manager would not allow him to do so. The State Farm appraiser eventually made several phone calls and verified that I was correct in my assertions. However, he still would not concede to paying the running board price as " they were available at some time".
