Complaint Comments:
Dear Sir or Madam, The noted appraiser originally inspected the vehicle at the owners work location. Upon being disassembled at the shop additional damages were discovered and contact was made with the appraiser for a supplemental inspection. Promptly the vehicle was again inspected on Monday November 12th.' The appraiser failed to leave a copy of the supplemental appraisal or go over her appraisal of the damages as she failed to prepare the supplemental appraisal while at the shop. The next day I made contact with her at about 12.00 PM and requested that a copy of the supplement be faxed to the shop as delivery of the vehicle was imminent. At that time I was informed by her that she had not yet received her appraisal back from the insurance company. When questioned she explained the following. The insurer requires, and she agrees, to fax her appraisal to the insurer before it is given or sent to either the consumer or the body shop. The insurer apparently reviews the appraisal and makes whatever adjustments they feel are necessary, or complies with their appraisal guidelines, and then forwards it back to the appraiser to then forward to the respective parties. I then received a supplemental appraisal noted as a "CORRECTED SUPPLEMENT", which is indicative that the original supplement has been changed or altered.'' It appears that the appraiser has not prepared an unbiased appraisal of the damages as required by the act and regulations and allows the insurer to influence her judgment on items necessary to repair the vehicle in order to continue to get work from the company.
