I called to report my car was damaged. Someone swiped the passenger side and then dented the same side. I reported it to the insurance company as one incident because it was one incident and I explained this to the appraiser as well. I explained I was shopping and had my car in the parking lot and it was damaged in two locations on the passenger side of the car. I asked for the appraisal sheet and did not receive it so in the meantime I sent to a shop and asked for an estimate. The shop asked for the appraisal sheet and I mentioned the insurance company would not provide one so he asked me for their contact information and I gave it to him. The insurance company then informed the shop since my car was damaged in two spots they would only pay for the one part of the damage which totaled $257.32 and not the other part of the damage for $1,679.91. On the comment section of the appraisal paper it stated per adjuster Karen Kidwell(Brethren)provide two separate estimates because these were 2 different accidents. So the appraiser did that and then Karen Kidwell (Brethren) sent me a letter saying we are only paying for the $257.00 part of the damage. I went back and forth with emails explaining over and over this is from one incident so why would she lie and tell the appraiser it was from 2 different accidents. I contacted a supervisor at Brethren and he said he would look into getting it settled fairly. One week passed and I emailed him again since I didn't hear from anyone and he had someone call me and I was informed that Brethren would not pay for both damages. Also, the insurance company was very rude and unprofessional and kept changing the story of what took place and making things up. She told me my shop verified the car has 2 different spots of damage which is correct but it's from the same incident not two different ones which the shop I contacted confirmed. I never picked a body shop to o the work I just contacted one person to ask what the cost would be and that was it. They asked what the insurance quote would be and I told him I didn't get that information yet and gave him the number so he could check but I never confirmed a shop to do the work yet because I wanted to check a few places. Luckily I have all of the emails I sent them with their response to prove what I told them initially. I asked for a manger to call me back. The next day the manager called me and I explained I need to get this resolved. I explained the situation again and asked him since Brethren is refusing to pay for both damages to the car for the one incident can they just pay the damage for $1,679.91 and I will pay my deductible and then I will file a complaint to have the other portion paid as well. He told me no Brethren will not pay ANY claims to get my car fixed. I told him I would file a complaint and he told me to go ahead and do that because we are not paying. After that I explained to him I was recording the call and I would be sending a copy of this call with the complaint and he got irate with me and said I did not have his permission to do that. I did this because this insurance company keeps telling me different things and twisting stories and being very rude and unprofessional. The manager hung up on me. I found the name of the president of Brethren Mutual Insurance Company and sent him an email explaining all of this as well as his secretary and did not hear anything from anyone. I noticed this company has similar complaints online and complaints with the Better Business Bureau and they do nothing to resolve them. I would like to add that I was with this insurance company for over 15 years and always paid ontime, never late and as soon as I need to use them for something they are trying to avoid paying the claims. I recently changed to another company for my auto insurance because for the past 2 years they were overcharging me $80.00 every month. I contacted them several times to ask them why they kept raising the my rate and they I would not get any help at all so I looked into other companies. I put in a request to change and just recently did to another company and I'm paying about $90.00 less each month for insurance. Brethren Insurance had my son's name listed wrong on the policy and would not correct it so they were charging me a sur-charge each month but would not help me to get it fixed and it was their mistake. I still have my homeowners insurance with them but I am in the process of looking for another company due to all of this. Please help me. They should not be able to get away with doing these things. I have always paid my insurance bills on time and in full for the past 15 years I have been with them and do not deserve to be treated this way.
